How We Do It

We do it through our platform EUKARYA
We do it through our platform EUKARYA

This is how we develop high-performance plant cell lines for proteins, metabolites, and agricultural traits.

1
step
DNA Blueprint Design
DNA sequences serve as the blueprint for cellular production of the desired protein. At ERGO, we build up DNA sequences from complex animal proteins and integrate them into plant cell lines. We utilize sophisticated tools that facilitate the plant cell's ability to accurately interpret the genetic information and to produce the target complex proteins.
3
step
Industrial Plant
Cell Cultivation
Our team of bioprocess engineers optimizes cultivation parameters, enabling us to generate substantial quantities of plant biomass in short timeframes using industrial-scale fermenters, similar to those employed for bacteria or yeast.
2
step
Genetic Optimization
Through high throughput and multi-omics analysis and precise genetic editing tools, we develop cell lines with expression levels exceeding the standard.
4
step
Plant-Based Proteins
As a result, we obtain proteins structurally analogous to those naturally found in the plant kingdom, without the use of animals. The final ingredient is free from genetic materials as well as antibiotics and doesn't involve fertilizers or agrochemicals.
These proteins retain the capacity to faithfully replicate all their functionalities in the end product, enhancing its flavor, texture, color, and aroma.

What is Ergo and what do you do?
Ergo is a biotechnology company that develops advanced solutions based on plant cell technology. We engineer cell lines to express functional proteins, accumulate high-value metabolites, and accelerate plant breeding — delivering sustainable innovations across food, personal care, nutraceuticals, pharma, and agriculture.
How is Ergo different from other biotech companies?
Unlike companies focused solely on microbial fermentation or synthetic biology, Ergo specializes in plant cell systems. Our proprietary technologies allow us to unlock the full biosynthetic potential of plants to create more natural, scalable, and industry-specific solutions.
What kind of companies do you work with?
We partner with leading companies in food, cosmetics, healthcare, and agribusiness who are looking to replace animal-based, low-yield, or unsustainable ingredients with next-generation alternatives derived from plant cells.
Are your solutions commercially ready?
Yes — several of our plant cell lines are currently available for licensing or co-development, and we also offer tailored development services for clients who want exclusive ingredients or traits based on their needs.
Where is Ergo based?
Ergo is headquartered in Argentina, with operations and partnerships in North America and Europe. We collaborate globally with R&D centers, innovation hubs, and production partners to scale our impact.
Are your products GMO?
Our ingredients are GMO-Free. This means that we have validated that after the fermentation process and during the protein purification stages, all genetic material is removed from the final ingredient.
Are your proteins vegan?
Yes. No animals were used to create our proteins.
Are your proteins cell-based?
No. The term "cell-based" refers to the use of animal cell lines. In our process, we synthesize the DNA sequences of the target proteins and insert them into plant cells, which are then reproduced in bioreactors. There is no cultivation of animal tissue involved.
Do your proteins contain sugar?
No. All the plant-based sugar used in the culture medium is consumed by the plant cells to reproduce and express the target proteins.
Are your proteins safe for consumption?
Yes. The cultivation of plant cells is considered a Precision Fermentation Platform. It is a safe, well-established method that has been used to produce animal proteins - including rennet for cheese and insulin for diabetics - for decades."
